Hi Fanny,
I believe you have to run also the second step of the analysis (that is, both of them) to do the step-depth thing for angular and metrics, and tick the option to include metric distances. Can't remember right of the bat as I don't have Depthmap here with me but try that (before this step (afaik) Depthmap hasn't included any metric information in the database it actually does things on).
Generally speaking, however, there are some technicalities of running angular vs standard configurative analysis of multi-storey buildings in how it deals with the configurative step of a hyperlink (is it still called that?). A straight connection turns out as one step configuratively but 0 degrees in angular measurements. This is simply logical consequences of how a relates to b through the hyperlinked c and d. This leads to there being significant differences in how you need to prepare the model for depthmap analysis to have it say similar things (and correspond to empirically tested multi-story behaviour), and how the stairs / story shifts act in your model.
To sum it up: representing a stair as 1 syntactical step is less problematic than representing it as 0 angular steps. :)
(Technically, in principle:
the case: 
a sees c, c=d (hyperlink), d sees b
regular syntax: there is a configurative step to b; that a sees c does not mean it sees b;
angular syntax: if is in the same direction from d as c is from a, there is no angular shift to b, i.e. the angular measure is = 0,
if 
is in the opposite direction, you have the angular distance 1 (I can't guarantee it is exactly 1, but it is maximum angular difference).
That is, even if the specific points a and d, as well as c and b are connected without syntactical distance, a to b has a syntactical step between them.
This makes the different modes behave very differently around staircases, and the ways to get around it and/or add steps to represent a staircase also become differently easy as placing of link locations have different requirements.

Unless something has been changed in very recent models of Depthmap.)

Working in my research I was doing a Vga on a building.

To make it clear see enclosed Pdf file.

There are 2 plans on the same dxf file.

Each plan has two levels separated by 1.5 meters height.

The first pdf page has a local visibility analysis from the toilettes. You can see the visual step depth from that point on the plan.

The second page has a metric step shown only on one plan while doing analysis the second plan is coloured grey and the measure is 0.

 

Can anyone tell me why the analysis cannot perform a metric and angular analysis on every part of the file?

 

Page # 4 shows the visual step depth from another position on the building.
